How can I return something back to community?

Qubit’s co-founder, Ondrej Krehel, grew up in former Czechoslovakia. He later built a successful cybersecurity career in the United States, working alongside organizations such as the FBI, leading incident response teams, and helping organizations respond to some of the most significant cyberattacks of their time.

Despite his professional success, he often thought about how to bring the knowledge, experience, and connections he had gained back to the region where his journey began. During a conversation with a former senior FBI official, he received a piece of advice that would shape the entire philosophy behind Qubit:

“Don’t try to change the whole world. Improve the field you know best.”

In 2014, together with Mária Krahulecová, he set out to create a platform that would connect professionals, encourage open dialogue, and bring new perspectives to the growing cybersecurity community across Central and Eastern Europe. They wanted to build a bridge between East and West - a place where experienced global experts could connect with professionals eager to learn and grow.

The first event was small. Around twenty-five people attended, including the organizers themselves. There were no investors, no large corporate sponsors, and no marketing budgets. For the first few years, the project was funded entirely by its founders and built alongside their full-time careers.

What kept Qubit alive was not a business model. It was the community. From the very beginning, we believed that the greatest value is not created on stage, but in the conversations between people - in trust, shared experience, and meaningful relationships between professionals.

Today, Qubit connects leaders, practitioners, and innovators from across Europe. Yet our mission has remained the same since day one: to help people grow, connect with one another, and build a community that advances both cybersecurity and the broader technology ecosystem. Because when people grow, organizations become more resilient - and when communities grow stronger, entire industries move forward.
